Advantages of LNG/LBG
Economical
The production of LNG is easier and costs less than the production of diesel from petroleum. This is one of the reasons that the price of LNG is lower than the price of diesel at the pump. This provides fuel cost savings to the transporter of 2 to 3 cents per kilometre. This means that running on LNG/LBG is cheaper than running on diesel. A truck running on LNG/LBG has a range of over 1200km.
Clean transportation
A truck that runs on LNG/LBG meets the strictest international environmental standards. Combustion of liquified methane produces fewer harmful emissions than combustion of diesel or petrol. Another advantage is that this truck can enter the environmental zones of international cities. This helps to avoid fines and eliminates the necessity of investing in expensive filter equipment. A truck on LNG/LBG achieves an even better standard than EURO 6. In addition, running on biogas delivers a reduction of CO2 in the supply chain of 80%.
Noise
Increasingly strict rules are also being implemented internationally for noise. Distribution transportation in particular is involved in this. To be able to organize the flexible shipping and delivery of products, the truck needs to be quiet. The requirements for this are getting higher, especially in residential areas. A truck running on LNG/LBG is PIEK certified. This means that loading and unloading is permitted at many more times, so that deployment of the vehicles can be much more flexible. An LNG/LBG truck is as much as 70% quieter than a diesel truck.
Safety
Production, transport, refuelling and driving with liquified natural gas and biogas is extremely safe. There has long been a deep-seated fear of gas. Natural gas is flammable and therefore dangerous, just like propane gas (LPG), diesel and petrol. The latter three fuels are heavier than air. When they come into contact with outside air pressure, they remain hanging in the area (LPG) or lie in puddles on the ground (diesel and petrol). If there is then a spark, the fuel can ignite. LNG/LBG is only flammable when it heats up and vaporizes. In its gaseous state, this fuel is lighter than air and it rises away from possible ignition sources.
